News Around the Club

This edition of our newsletter is going together in a bit of a rush and is somewhat abbreviated as your editor has been busy with getting renewals out — they should be dropping into mailboxes Friday or Saturday. There will be a supply of blank renewals in the clubhouse also.

We have a couple of important meeting dates coming up; September 5th, when nominations for office close, and September 19th when we hold our Annual Meeting and Election of Officers for the fiscal year. Our fiscal year starts September 1st. Why? That's lost in the sands of time.

Dues must be current to run for office, vote in the elections or purchase a new key. We change the locks at the Annual Meeting. If you would like to run for office, contact Rebecca Glancy, she is the chairwoman of the Nominations Committee before or at the first September meeting.

Pistol Match

The Pistol Committee held a combined Dueling Tree and Texas Star match on July 30th which attracted 15 shooters, a record for a pistol shoot. There were two Dueling Tree stages; the first where a shooter had to move the plates to the other side, then move them back. The second Dueling Tree stage had two shooters competing against each other on one tree. With two trees in operation this meant there was four shooters on the line all shooting at once — the noise was great with the air full of ejected cases.

The Texas Star stage had shooters attempt to knock five plates from a star shaped stand that started spinning once a plate had been hit and the star was unbalanced. Unused rounds had to be shot into a dump target.

We shot the three stages for a combined score. Adam Proulx came in first followed by Zack Kerland and Arthur Fiorillo. We then shot just the Texas Star with the top three shooters being Alex Clark, Adam Proulx and Mike Guidicci.

The next pistol match is scheduled for Saturday, August 6th at 2:00 PM. This will be a Bullseye Match shot at 50 ft. Iron-sited center fire and rimfire pistols may be used — rimfire highlighted for Maura.

Cowboy Action Shooting

The Gunnysackers spent a week out at Harvard shooting in the Tri-State match organized by our own Yankee, aka Ron Rice. Tenderfoot (Phil Lennon) finished 2nd in his class, Nantucket Dawn (Sue Lennon) finished 1st in her class while Yankee finished 5th in his class. Congratulations to all.

The next Cowboy Shoot is scheduled for Sunday, August 7th at 9:00 in the forenoon.

Skeet & Trap

Trap has seen an uptick in participation recently. They are also looking for more committee members to ensure continuity through the winter months as some committee members retire to the warmer climes of Florida for the cold months. Contact chairman Marco Cappabianca or any committee member if interested.

Quotes of the Month

"These Sarah Brady types must be educated to understand that because we have an armed citizenry, a dictatorship has not happened in America. These anti-gun fools are more dangerous to liberty than street criminals or foreign spies."
Theodore Haas, Dachau Survivor

A lady begins to know she is shooting well when the men stop telling her she is.”
Sir Joseph Nickerson, renowned British shooter of the 1950's/60's

"How a politician stands on the Second Amendment tells you how he or she views you as an individual… as a trustworthy and productive citizen, or as part of an unruly crowd that needs to be lorded over, controlled, supervised, and taken care of."
