Thanksgiving is right around the corner and so is our annual Turkey Shoot which we will hold on Sunday, November 21st after a 1-year hiatus caused by Covid. There's fun for all ages, so grab the kids, and yes, even Aunt Edna, and "Come On Down". 

All the usual games will be in action: Hanging Targets, Swinging Targets, Skeet/Trap, Lucky 22s and Kids Archery. We'll need volunteers to help run the games, particularly if it's a cold day so that those running games can warm-up in the clubhouse. The Gunnysackers of the Scituate Rod & Gun Club have been busy competing in various State Championships and large matches around the Country.

In the Maine State Championship the following members finished as follows:

Pistol

The Halloween Fun Shoot scheduled for Saturday, October 30th was pushed to the following day due to inclement weather. Fifteen shooters turned out to try their luck at punching holes in seasonally themed paper targets and popping balloons. During setting up the event the balloons were dancing around in gusty winds, but the winds died down to a few zephyrs by the time we started shooting. 

Winners were: Senior Class, Richard Martin; Junior Class, Andrew Thompson and Ladies Class, Maura Devine.

The next pistol event will be a Combat Match on Saturday, November 13th, starting at 1:00 PM

Trap & Skeet

The skeet shooters held a 50-round Halloween Skeet Shoot on Sunday, October 24th. The shooters were handicapped according to their average score. The winner of the shoot was Art Smith. The event included a Pot Luck lunch with lots of good grub cooked up by the participants. 

Some water got into the trap house during the storm but not high enough to do any damage, thanks to the sterling work of Tom Lesko with the pumps.

October 26-28 Storm

The Nor'Easter we had blow through for 2+ days wreaked havoc across the South Shore and we did not come through unscathed. The storm dropped a large branch across the driveway close to the 3A end and totally uprooted a large red oak at the other end which, of course, also fell across the driveway. Naturally, the falling timbers carried away our power and phone lines.

Thanks to the efforts of Dave Glancy and his crane plus a group of members with chainsaws, the driveway was open by Friday afternoon and power had been restored. Hats off to the chainsaw crew: Arty Johannesen, Paul Fig, Phil Lennon, Kevin Bowker and Bill Berry. If anyone was missed, apologies and pat yourself on the back.

One ray of sunshine — we've augmented our supply of wood for the stove, although it'll be next winter before it's all processed, stacked, and dried.

Springfield Armory's new SA-35 9 mm pistol is a modern take on a design created by John Moses Browning himself. The MSRP is $699, a great price for shooters who want an updated, American-made version of the iconic P-35 Hi-Power pistol.

The one and only Rob Leatham, a Springfield Armory pro shooter, shared his thoughts about the new SA-35 on his Facebook page:

This has been a hard secret for me to keep. I have had a pre-production unit for months and I can tell you this is a really well built gun. Best built version of this design I have seen. Better sights and better safety and best trigger I have felt on any P-35. I’m very excited about this gun. Maybe it’s the old school aspect but I have always liked them. I hope you like it as much as I do.
