Good news on our spine-jarring driveway; we purchased three loads of reprocessed aggregate and Greg Morse donated equipment and time and smoothed out our driveway. Thanks Greg! There are plans to have the driveway regraded in the fall so water does not collect, then turn into potholes. Also, our tow-behind grader has been repaired thanks to the services of member John Hatherly of Hatherley Welding. While we are doling out the thanks, ABC Equipment in Marshfield recently performed the annual service on our ride-on lawn mower for no charge!
Fishing Derbies
There's been a slight hiccup with the dates of our fishing derbies; the fish won't be delivered until Wednesday, June 14th. Therefore our annual Kids Fishing Derby is now scheduled for Saturday, May 17th followed by the Vocational Life Skills Fishing Derby the following Tuesday, May 20th. We'll need helpers on both days to bait hooks, untangle snarls and retrieve tackle from trees and bushes.
Please note that all ranges will be closed until the fishing derbies have concluded and our guests have departed.
The Cleanup Day has been moved to Saturday, May 10th. The cleanup will concentrate on the area around the pond, parking lot and clubhouse. The Skeet/Trap field will be open as will the Pistol Range. The bones have, once again, been cast upon the ground and are still forecasting pizza after the cleanup is completed.
Skeet and Trap
Trap continue to shoot on Saturday mornings only at this time. An order has been placed for a batch of clays; we'll need a hand unloading them when they arrive. The skeet machines are not throwing the birds along the desired trajectory. A new hoop has been made and the machines will be adjusted.
Cowboy Action Shooting
Our tenacious cowboys and cowgirls have returned to the ranch after shooting up and down the east coast and as far west as Phoenix. A report on their adventures is in the offing for the next newsletter. Their next planned foray along the dusty trails for the Gunnysackers will be to Oklahoma for the National Championship in October.
The next Cowboy Action Shoot here will be on Sunday, May 18th, starting at 9:00 am. A practice clinic is scheduled for Sunday, May 11th from 9:30 am until 11:00 am.
Dick Martin Appreciation Day & 22 Shoot
An appreciation day along with a 22 shoot (Dicky's favorite caliber) is planned for Saturday, May 31st. The event will recognize his efforts and contributions to the club over the past 40 years.
Pistol
The Easter Fun Shoot attracted 16 shooters. Coming in First was Dick Martin (119); Second and Third places were taken by Paul Figueiredo (101) and Phil Lennon (95) respectively.
The next pistol match will be a Combat Pistol Shoot on Saturday, May 10th, starting at 1:00 pm. The course of fire can be seen in the graphic below. This is a timed event with a shooter's final score being determined by dividing points by time producing the rate at which a shooter is accumulating points.
There will be a variety of categories in which you can shoot: Semi- auto centerfire w/iron sights, Semi- auto centerfire w/optical sights, Semi-auto rimfire w/iron sights, Semi-auto rimfire w/optical sights, Centerfire pistol w/iron sights, Centerfire pistol w/optical sights, Rimfire pistol w/iron sights, Rimfire pistol w/optical sights, and for the really daring Slingshot. Also, there are two ways you can shoot the course of fire. For those with sufficient magazines, they can shoot Straight Through, that is Stage 1 followed immediately by Stage 2; others will shoot Stage 1, regroup/reload, then shoot Stage 2.
There are so many permutations of the above there's a good chance that everyone will be a winner. 😃
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms… disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes… Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
~ Thomas Jefferson
"America is a country founded on guns. It's in our DNA. It's very strange but I feel better having a gun. I really do. I don't feel safe, I don't feel the house is completely safe, if I don't have one hidden somewhere. That's my thinking, right or wrong."
~ Brad Pitt
"Let us hope our weapons are never needed - but do not forget what the common people of this nation knew when they demanded the Bill of Rights: An armed citizenry is the first defense, the best defense, and the final defense against tyranny."
~ Edward Abbey, American author and essayist (1927-1989)

Here are a few of the main reasons to help you, as a woman, find the right tribe of people with whom you want to spend your time while you enjoy some firearm fellowship.

Why do women own firearms/ There are as many individual answers to that question as there are walks of life; many are similar, but uniquely personal. Here’s a look at a few of the main reasons to help you, as a woman, find the right tribe of people with whom you want to spend your time while you enjoy some firearm fellowship.
The Home Defender
These are your mama bears of the world. They believe the mantra, “No one is coming to save you.” It is a truth we often see played out in the news. You are your own first responder. Women who understand this truth tend to be independent and confident.
A subset of this population would be the women who want to have a firearm because they think it will make them feel safe, but they lack confidence because they do not train enough. If you fall into this category, seek the mentorship from those women who are, confident, capable, and can help you to become the capable woman you want to be.
The Survivor of Abuse
Sadly, guns being the great equalizer, many women resort to purchasing one because of abuse, stalking, and violent or criminal individuals in their lives. These women have real stories. Sadly, their reality isn’t a rarity. Recently I was sitting at a random table with two young women, and each of us had a story about somebody who had 1) stalked them at their job 2) stalked them at their house or 3) had photos of them on their phone. It is such a common occurrence that it can leave one feeling paranoid.
Making the decision to purchase a firearm because of abuse, stalking or threats is a reasonable reaction to danger as a female. If you fall into this category, you should get training and become as skilled as possible, so that you can use this tool to the best of your ability, should the need arise.
Training should not only encompass concealed carry, home defense and personal defense, but it should also cover training on the legal aspects of the laws in your state regarding stalking or abuse, and how you get restraining orders or protective orders in place. Read the complete article here.
Imported beef can be labeled as “product of USA” if value is added to it in the United States.
To add value, the beef can be ground, sliced, or just repackaged. If any of the preceding is done, it can be labelled as a product of the USA. 😱
